A Finish & A Great Find

On Tuesday I finished stitching Gentle & Kind.

Designer: Little House Needleworks
Fabric: 28ct Cream Linen
Threads: Belle Soie Silks

It is now at the framers from where I will be collecting it from on my Mum's birthday. She will be getting it two days later when they come for Sunday dinner.

One of my design ideas is for something similar in size for my dad which he may well get for Christmas. I have the idea all mapped in my head, I just need to pluck up the courage to start putting it down on paper. I think I might be asking for a cross stitch designer package for Xmas. I've been playing with the sample version of PC Pro to see what I think of it but I'm undecided at the moment.

Anyway my great find is a new, to me, needlework shop. If anyone lives in or near Derby there is a really great shop in Alfreton that you really do need to explore. For anyone in my area I'd say it's probably better than Wye Needlecraft. If you park in Tesco's car park, which is free for 3 hours, it is a few minutes walk up the hill, on the left. The shop is called Sew-n-Sew Needlecraft and is open Mon-Sat 9:30-5:00. I have to admit that Husband found it for me and my first visit was yesterday when I took Gentle & Kind to be framed but they were really friendly and happy to talk to you. For anyone travelling out of Derby it is really easy to find. From the A38 just take the main road into Alfreton and you won't be bale to miss Tescos on your right at the second set of traffic lights.

That does look lovely well done!
I haven't been to the Alfreton one, I had heard of it though may have to take a trip up one day!

Beautiful finish! Play around with drawing on graph paper. I've tried the sample version of PC Stitch, and was frustrated, because the sample is soooo limited, it's hard to know if the full program is really what I want.

And I'm jealous of you UK girls who have actual LNS - all I have in my area are "craft shops" - either entirely devoted to quilting and knitting or just kitchy knick-knacks. Jo-Ann is the only store that carries DMC at a decent price, and they don't have a lot of stitchable fabrics. Done venting - enjoy your new find!

hi

i used to go to the shop before it moved to alfreton as it was near where my hubby worked. it only used to be a small shop within a garden centre. is it a decent shop now?

I've been going to Sew & Sew for years , they offer great service and friendly faces . We have all our framing done there , and I wouldn't go anywhere else.
The shop is set out differently from when it was at Carnfield Hall , but it's just as good.

Lovely piece - I'm sure you mum will love it. Can I ask where you got it from - I looked online in the UK and can't seem to find it.

Great finish

I'm pretty sure I pass close to Alfreton when I go to visit friends in Nottingham so I think I'll have to make sure I time it right next time I'm heading that way so Ican stop by.

A lovely finish.

Sew-n-Sew is where I have my finishes framed. I started going to them when they were at Carnfield Hall. They are a little bit nearer to me now they are at Alfreton although I still have to travel about three quarters of an hour, but it's worth it. They are so friendly and very knowledgeable people, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Such a very pretty finish - am sure your Mum will be delighted with it. Might have to take a detour next time we're visiting his parents. :0)

Your Sweet and Kind is so nicely done and I like the way you put Mum in it. She will love it.
I, too wish I lived in a town close to a needlework shop. What a hoot that would be.
Your stitching is so pretty.
God Bless ~
